Marian Durkin, CSA

Marian Durkin, CSA, founded The Open House a center for persons with AIDS on Cleveland’s east side. When she began her venture, Marian had no experience as an entrepreneur. Now she shares from the wealth of her experience.

Marian Durkin, a Sister of Charity of St. Augustine, resides in Independence, Ohio. In early 1993, Marian founded The Open House a center for persons with AIDS on Cleveland’s east side. Marian was the Executive Director until 2001 at which time she was elected to her congregation’s leadership team.

When Marian began her venture, she had no experience as an entrepreneur. She did, however, have a partner who helped her get started. Marian did much of the leg work to get the project off the ground. Gail Frires, who had lost her brother to AIDS and was a social worker, joined Marian and together they took The Open House from dream to reality.
