Practical Resources: Transitions by Donna Capuano, OSU

How Do You Know It's the Right Move? Making the Next Transition!

Transitions are “reflective journeys” but you must end what is before you can begin what will be. Even when we want them, endings can be painful.

Once the ending is completed the reflective journey can begin. These are some questions to guide your self-assessment:

What do I need in order to thrive--economically, emotionally, philosophically, socially, etc.?

What is it I don’t want to do? It is amazing how things can fall off this list.

What is my dream? Everyone needs a piece of her/his dream in order to thrive.

What are my skills? Remember that there are three kinds of skills.

Do I have the right skills? What should I do if I don’t?

What are my limitations? What are my possibilities?

Prior to beginning any new venture/career, it is critical that you spend some time with these questions. The answers may make all the difference between future success and failure. Get a reality check; talk it through with someone. Remember you are your greatest resource!
