Success Story: Rosel Feder

Motivated by a love for music, prayer and beauty, I made plans to record the music I composed for a Masters Degree in Spirituality. “Mystic Suite” was the nickname I gave this recording project because creation-centered mystics of the Middle Ages were the focus of my masters dissertation. Now expanding into its fourth CD, “Mystic Suite” has become the name of my small business. In addition to the recordings, I have developed two retreats: “Music As a Spiritual Path” and “The Spirituality of the Mystics”.

I was encouraged in the early stages by the School Sisters of Notre Dame, to give concerts to promote the CDs and to develop a website. The concerts gave the CDs an initial boost. It is through the retreats and the website that business continues. Retreat work has taken me to Canada, Mexico and all through the United States. Now the CDs are in eight countries.

From the beginning risk-taking and perseverance were two qualities that became daily companions. I kept my focus on the desire to share beauty through music in order to provide the opportunity for people in this frenzied society to enter into deeper union with the Divine Presence within them. Teaching myself a music-printing program on the computer was a necessity so that I could distribute various musical scores to vocalists and instrumentalists. In the retreat area I didn’t just say “yes” to requests for music retreats or mystic retreats; I said “yes” to everything from RCIA reflection days to Triduum retreats. Given the time to prepare and the desire to meet the challenge, I felt that each event fell within reach of musical and mystical prayer. When I receive notes of appreciation and hear retreatants express a deeply felt gratitude for their retreat experience, I know that the Spirit of God has been working through me and through the music I have composed.
